We publish here an article of our collegues and friends working at the University of Florence with Code-Aster. Ingenieurbüro für Mechanik maintains since long time a lively and fruitful exchange of experience with Michele Betti and his staff who mainly work on the analysis of historical masonry buildings in Tuscany (Italy).

The technical feature talked about in this article is the Mazars model which originally was developed for concrete and which is implemented in Code-Aster. This model is used to describe the development of damage in stonework structures.
